Sweater Season

Here are some shots from Friday’s “Sweater Season” cocktail and canapés event put on by Owen Lightly of Butter on the Endive at the Found and the Freed vintage design pop up shop in Gastown.

Supper on the Lake was such a great event for my birthday and so I’ve been looking forward to this one for a while. Owen always does a great job at his events and the locations are always interesting but I LOVE antique stores and this one in particular is beautifully curated with all kinds of vintage ephemera.

I told Matt that he could buy me almost anything in it for a Christmas present (and then we went back today and he bought me this typeset drawer cabinet for my art, what a sweetie!) and so in between the eating and drinking fine things and talking to interesting people, there was a lot of rubber-necking and picture taking.

There’s no kitchen there so everything was done with a hot plate and a toaster oven but everything turned out really well. Boulevardiers and negronis were being poured at the bar, along with some special requests.

For canapés there were pig face and sweetbread croquettes with pumpkin-currant chutney, fried oyster sliders and grass fed beef tartare with Parmesan crisps and watercress coming out of the back room.

Then at the front of the house, Owen and crew were making Yarrow Meadows duck confit tortellini in pine mushroom broth and seared Qualicum bay scallops with bacon-wrapped salsify and apple-mustard vinaigrette. So good! That salsify was the highlight of the night.

Apparently there was a quince beignet with almond and brandy caramel to finish but we must have missed that.

Can’t wait for the next one!

This looks awesome. How much was this event?

The beignets were delicious. Small like a profiterole but with much more flavour. :)
